BTS -f(x) = sexy math lyrics

Sexy Math Lyrics…. and lyrics involving “hae”.

Update:  Jan 2017.

More of the “hae” word play in RM’s always (2017), Produced by RM, arranged by Pdogg.
Just the first part…

One day, after opening my eyes in the morning
I wished I were dead
I wished someone would kill me
In this loud silence
I live to understand (ee-hae/2 hae) the world
But why has the world never understood me
No, it’s just lacking the half
It tries to harm (hae) me.

His note after the song:

I worked on it early last year and did simple recordings and left this song.
When my heart felt heavy, I didn’t want to just let the emotions run its course, so I recorded it
Thankfully, my heart feels much better now!
But I felt it would be a bit of a waste to discard it just because those emotions have passed, so I’m sharing this.
I was going to edit and clean it up, but then decided not to, in order to leave the original feelings as it is
because sometimes when you’re feeling sad, sad songs can be the biggest comfort.

Update:  Oct 2016

From 2!3! (from WINGS)

Suga’s part

(Thank you so much) Thanks to your inferiority complex
I was able to do  proof that I couldn’t even do in high-school.

Meaning he proved himself… and the proof he couldn’t do in high-school refers to Mathematical Proof.  These nerds. ^^

Original post:  May 2016.

f(x), the mathematical function, not the girl group…^^   BTS uses some fun math terms in their lyrics.

The word play using “Hae” is used a few times in their songs.

Hae:
the value of x (the variable) in an equation.  For example:
x-a=0
x=a,  then a would be “hae”
in f(x), if x=a, then you can calculate f(a).

Hae = harm.
Hae = sun.
Hae = year
Hae = to do.

No wonder they use this term often in their songs.   It has so many meanings.

I’m still surprised that they can do this…I guess they’re all nouns, other than “to do” meaning, but it must be still difficult to make the sentence structure work as smoothly as they do, with all the different meanings.

In War of Hormone
written by:  Supreme Boi, Rap Monster, J-Hope, Suga and Pdogg.
(lyrics are somewhat appropriate for what would be in the minds of (nerdy) boys who just finished high school..)

My eyes keep turning, the girls’ stomach (yup)
Girls are equations, us men do it (yup)

When this song came out, there were some discussions ….on whether this is sexual…among some fans…

Girls are equations, us men do it (eg.  do the girls –>this is not a common expression in Korea)
Girls are equations, us men do it (eg.  do the equation and try to solve the problem/question that is girls)
Girls are equations, us men are the variables. (in a totally nerdy, play on words sense)
Girls are equations, us men are the variables (wait….. if girls are f(x), and men are the value of  x, don’t you put the value of x in the f(x)?   Suddenly very sexual in a very nerdy way…)

They probably meant all the different meanings.   It’s just subtle enough that it wouldn’t get censored.

(see the end of this post, for more fun things about War of Hormone ^^)

Voice (from RM Mixtape)

I had no dream.
Like my lyrics, it’s like that every day
The mathematical functions and equation that could not give me an answer
In the end, they became countless/many/numerous  “hae”

It makes it impossible to see the stars hidden behind that light
Day by day, I killed myself slowly like that
Meaninglessly obsessing all day on being graded like cuts of beef.

  1.   if “hae” = variable:

I had no dream.
Like my lyrics, it’s like that every day
The mathematical functions and equation that could not give me an answer
In the end, they became countless  variables

It makes it impossible to see the stars hidden behind that light
Day by day, I killed myself slowly like that
Meaninglessly obsessing all day on being graded like cuts of beef.

(ie.  having no dreams and trying to find answer to his life at school by studying, gave no firm one answer, and just made him more confused)

2.   if “hae” = harm.

I had no dream.
Like my lyrics, it’s like that every day
The mathematical functions and equation that could not give me an answer
In the end, they caused many harms

It makes it impossible to see the stars hidden behind that light
Day by day, I killed myself slowly like that
Meaninglessly obsessing all day on being graded like cuts of beef.

(ie.  having no dreams and trying to find answer to his life at school by studying, caused countless harms)

3.  if “hae” = sun

I had no dream.
Like my lyrics, it’s like that every day
The mathematical functions and equation that could not give me an answer
In the end, they became many suns.

It makes it impossible to see the stars hidden behind that light
Day by day, I killed myself slowly like that
Meaninglessly obsessing all day on being graded like cuts of beef.

(ie.  having no dreams and trying to find answer to his life at school by studying,  made him be blinded (by the sun), unable to see other valuable things (the light of the starts hidden by the sun)).

4.  if “hae” = year

I had no dream.
Like my lyrics, it’s like that every day
The mathematical functions and equation that could not give me an answer
In the end, they became many years .

It makes it impossible to see the stars hidden behind that light
Day by day, I killed myself slowly like that
Meaninglessly obsessing all day on being graded like cuts of beef.

(ie.  having no dreams and trying to find answer to his life at school by studying,  the days became many years unable to find himself)

Rap Monster’s Favorite Girl.

I’m actually not sure where the original track is uploaded by BigHit.  If anyone knows, please tell me.

This doesn’t use math terms…but I figured I’d add this on.

This can be interpreted with “Hae” = sun or harm

My favorite favorite girl
I didn’t want to be your sun any more
so I became the moon that only rises in the dark night

OR

My favorite favorite girl
I didn’t want to cause you any more harm
so I became the moon that only rises in the dark night

Back to War of Hormone.

Girl, with your seduction, I keep my seat at my computer nightly
for her, it’s “Lady first”
Girls are cold as glacier?  Let it go.   (movie “Frozen” reference)
the female that makes me go crazy, stimulating me me daily
Again today, I fight against my hormones and pop the pimple.

Pop the pimple.  Pop the pimple.  When you pop a pimple, something white-ish comes out, right?  This is really not a metaphor that sounds convincing, looking at the pimple line by itself.  But I guess there were some talks about what it means…(probably because the lines preceding it sounded somewhat…sexual…

Like…  being at the computer, watching porn.  Or females that stimulate him daily?  lol.   And apparently the “Lady first” is V, based on their choreo.

Anyway, a girl asked Suga what this means at a fansign event, and he left a very memorable quote:

“The perverted thoughts are all coming from peoples’  own hearts….”

You can watch the video here:

To translate:
Suga:  I get all alert and awake in the middle of the night.
Fans:  What do you do?  What do you do?
Suga:  I work on songs.
Fans:  Ahh…
Suga:  Why? Why?
Fans:  Do you do something else?
Suga:  Why?   I work.   I work at my computer…. What… What am I supposed to do?
Fan:  Oppa!  What does it mean, “pop the pimple?”!!
Suga:  Popping the pimple is popping the pimple.   The perverted thoughts are all coming from peoples’ own hearts…   Alright?
You should repent and go to church or temple or something…
Try to do some self-review of your own life too…
