BTS – Pied Piper (English translation and Ramblings)

Pied Piper is track 06 on the Love Yourself 承 ‘Her’ album.

Based on Pied Piper of Hamelin.

This folklore/legend is kind of fitting since it’s never clear whether Pied Piper was helpful to this town of Hamelin or not.  I guess fan relationship with BTS is kind of like that too – they’re helpful and encouraging but can also lead you down to not getting things done.

Sigh.  I should be working probably instead of translating….

Pied Piper… as metaphor for BTS.  The story has the town of Hamlin (BTS fans??) not holding up their side of bargain in doing what they’re supposed to do (eg. pay the Pied Piper), which lead to their possible destruction.  Or, is it the children of Hamlin (BTS fans??) being lured by the Piper’s song which is destructive as well as sweet?

I guess this song is saying that if we, as fans, do our job, then the BTS can be a reward…..  but to be still self-aware… of the temptation to just be spending too much time fangirling.

Thankfully, this is a straight forward song that’s not taking long to translate, so I will go back to doing work.. yes.. BTS.. I hear you!

Korean Lyrics were from Naver Music.

Because it’s bad for you, you like it more
You know deep down inside
Now it can’t be stopped (You can’t stop)
Try to be more honest with yourself

Stop
Stop watching and start studying for that test
Your parents and your supervisor hate me.
(the “supervisor” here is a director/manager level boss in a corporation, acknowledging that BTS fans include working adults.)
All the videos you’ve already watched, the various photos, twitter
V app, Bon Voyage
I know, you like them, what can you do?

Stop for now, you can theorize about the MV’s later
You already have a lot of photos of me in your room anyway
What do you mean, just an hour?  A year or two will be gone in a flash
This song is my reward for you
You’re good

It’s not that you’re being punished
Come here, I’m your paradise

Can’t close your eyes
Can’t close your eyes

Even if you try to resist, there’s no use anymore
(don’t reject me)
Just close your eyes and listen

Follow the sound of pipes.   Follow this song
Even if it’s a bit dangerous, you know I’m so sweet
I came to save you, I came to ruin you
You called for me, See it’s sweet
Follow the sound of the pipes

I’m takin’ over you
I’m takin’ over you

You know it’s already started
As soon as you hear that sound

Perhaps yes, I’m a bit dangerous, a bit dangerous
Like the Pied Piper that leads you
I test you, test you
Like the forbidden fruit that tempts you despite knowing better

It’s funny that Suga sings above part, because the “I’m a bit dangerous, a bit dangerous” reminds me of the famous Suga fan from the fansigns.
The translation of what she says in the clip is:

Min Yoongi, you dangerous man!!
Who makes me have such a hard time…
Makes me have such a hard time…
You gotta do something~~
(music)
I will sue you, Min Yoongi!
Because you hurt me so!
I will sue you, Min Yoongi!

Now this is stuck as a meme in the fandom.  ^^  I hear she’s married now ^^
In “House of Army” skit from the 3rd Muster, Suga also references this fan in his dialogue where he says:  I’m deadly attractive.  What if someone sues me for that?

The sound of my pipes wakes everything up
This sound makes you more bothered
You respond by being pulled by it
Endlessly blow out your breath
I’m your guilty pleasure
You won’t be able to escape
Never

It’s not that you’re being punished
Come here, I’m your paradise

Can’t close your eyes
Can’t close your eyes

Even if you try to resist, there’s no use
(don’t reject me)
Just close your eyes and listen

Follow the sound of pipes.   Follow this song
Even if it’s a bit dangerous, you know I’m so sweet
I came to save you, I came to ruin you
You called for me, See it’s sweet

Yeah, I’m a bit dangerous
I can’t handle myself either
Don’t worry, my hands are warm only for you, warm
(hands here suggest helping/supportive hand, not anything romantic)

If I’m perhaps ruining you right now
Could you forgive me?
Because you can’t live without me
I know it

I’m takin’ over you
I’m takin’ over you

  1. Thank you for this!! I love all your translations so much! I’m really hoping you translate the Outro since it’s my favourite song in the album but I understand if you’re busy. Like bts said, there are more important things!

  2. Wow these are amazing interpretation. Like really, I’ve never seen anything like this before, translating the background of the song before getting into the actual translation. So dedicated and you do it greatly. Such bangtan trash is what’s needed in the fandom lol 😁
Kfans keep saying that jimin’s serendipity has this absolutely gorgeous lyrics, I wonder if there are any wordplay in it or if there are any double meaning one couldn’t have caught if they don’t speak korean? Will you also be doing that one?

  3. I swear, your translations and ramblings are great for understanding their actual meaning. Sometimes literal translation doesn’t make much sense. Muish, the more you ramble, the more I love you for it. Thank you so much for taking time to do these translations, it means more than you can imagine.

  4. Thank you so much for the trans, i understand BTS’s songs on a much deeper level thanks to you! Reading the explanation here makes me realise how smart their lyrics are and they are also very honest in a witty way

  5. Thank you for this!! I love all your translations so much! I’m really hoping you translate the Outro since it’s my favourite song in the album but I understand if you’re busy. Like bts said, there are more important things!
